That's how I use to feel, about 20 years ago in the AOL/AIM days! (Well today too, sometimes lol) Those days were the best! AOL was todays' Facebook. We had our screen name(s), "You've Got Mail!" (email), instant messaging, chatrooms, private chatrooms, etc. We made our "Profile" without an image and people imagined what we looked like based of our profiles and when we chatted with them. When we wanted to send someone our picture, we had to get it scanned or we went and bought at the time a digital camera which was expensive. 😆

It was fun randomly receiving "a/s/l" instant messages(IMs) from people which meant "age/sex /location." Actually AOL was the birthpace of "Catfishing" imo, but it was fun figuring out who was who, etc. 😆

Back then it was mostly chatting and from that, we "mentally connected" with people. So when finally seeing a picture of that person or meeting them in person, since you mentally connected, you hold no real physical judgement against those people if they didn't fit your "mental picture" of them completely. But yes, sometimes people were NOT (at all) who they said they were or looked like; hence the beginnings of "Catfishing." You had to figure out a way to get rid of that stalker. 😱

Regardless, it was fun. We couldn't wait to get on the computer and chat. I mean chat ALL NIGHT long. lol Today a lot of people are married because of AOL and today also, some people still maintain wonderful friendships from AOL. (AOL = America Online. It was an actual program you installed on your computer.)

We use to be made fun of for always being on AOL or "on the computer" from the older generations, but today those same people are enjoying and using Facebook now like how we used AOL. Now they somewhat know what the fuss was all about but what they don't know is the struggle of only having ONE computer in the whole house on dial up connection. 🙄😆

There was no greater sound back then than hearing that dial up connection connect and logging into AOL hearing "You've Got Mail!" Those were the days. 😊
